It probably comes as no surprise that many of the most populous states in the US have the greatest gigabit availability, but many might be somewhat taken aback to learn 5.25 million of Colorado's 5.5 million residents have access to 1Gbit/s broadband.
That is one of the many findings available in Viavi Solutions' report, "The State of US Gigabit Deployment." Released today, the study used Viavi's global visualization database, called Gigabit Monitor, to track consumer gigabit Internet availability across the country (and world). This report highlights the database's regional and urban insight into gigabit broadband availability.
Gigabit Internet is available to more than 8.5 million people in California. But in the city of Chicago alone, 6 million people can use ultra-broadband. That means Chicago has more gigabit availability than many nations such as Japan, Sweden and the UK, according to Viavi.
A web-based tool, Gigabit Monitor showcases gigabit Internet provisioning across the world, based on publicly available data. The Monitor is regularly updated based on deployment announcements and feedback from users, Viavi said.
